Rooted in Our Community, Supported by Staff
Why I Serve
My family and my faith are my north stars, and I have always believed that strong communities are built by people who choose to get involved and give back. Throughout my life, I have volunteered for causes that are meaningful to me, including my work with The Escondido Creek Conservancy, where I developed strong relationships with Olivenhain Municipal Water District park rangers and staff.
I believe that when we see a problem in our community, we have a responsibility to help solve it. Over the years, I regularly reported water leaks through the District's reporting hotline. Rather than simply making a call and moving on, I would often meet with the responding field technicians and help identify the source of the issue. On one occasion, a leak I reported turned out to be on private property beyond the water meter. Working alongside District staff, I helped identify and contact the homeowner so the leak could be repaired and water conserved.
As a customer of the District, I also participate in OMWD's on-site water use assessments. Working with District landscape specialists, I adjusted my irrigation schedules to improve efficiency, resulting in a healthier landscape, lower water usage, and reduced water bills. These experiences gave me a firsthand appreciation for the professionalism, expertise, and dedication of OMWD employees.
My interest in water systems also stems from my professional career. Over the course of more than 32 years in life sciences and engineering, I have designed, installed, operated, and maintained high-purity water systems and wastewater treatment systems that are critical to life sciences operations. Water quality, reliability, treatment, distribution, and conservation are not abstract concepts to me, they have been an important part of my professional responsibilities for decades. This experience has given me a practical understanding of how complex water systems operate and the importance of maintaining infrastructure, ensuring reliability, and managing resources efficiently.
Through years of working alongside District staff and supporting water conservation efforts, I built relationships based on trust, service, and a shared commitment to our community. When a vacancy opened on the Board of Directors, several members of the OMWD team encouraged me to apply. A month later, I was honored to be appointed unanimously from a field of seven qualified applicants.
Since joining the Board, I have focused on bringing fiscal oversight, engineering-based problem solving, operational efficiency, and common-sense decision making to the District. I am proud of the work we have accomplished and remain committed to protecting ratepayers, strengthening water reliability, and ensuring our community remains resilient for generations to come.
